Mixed Gas Density Calculator

Use this calculator to estimate the density of air, Nitrox or Trimix at a selected depth. Enter the oxygen and helium percentages; the remaining percentage is calculated as nitrogen.

Reference values used by this calculator: an ideal gas density of 5.2 g/L or lower and an absolute maximum of 6.2 g/L.

How to use the scuba gas density calculator

  1. Enter the oxygen percentage of your breathing gas.
  2. Enter the helium percentage. For air or Nitrox, leave helium at 0%.
  3. Enter the planned depth in metres. The result updates automatically.

How the calculation works

The calculator treats the remaining gas as nitrogen and estimates density using the oxygen, helium and nitrogen proportions at the selected ambient pressure. Results are shown in grams per litre (g/L).
