FAQ
Do I need to be able to hold my breath for a long time before taking this course?
Not at all! A common misconception is that you need a massive lung capacity to start. We will teach you relaxation and breathing techniques that will naturally and safely extend your breath-hold time far beyond what you think you are capable of.
What is the difference between AIDA 1 and AIDA 2?
AIDA 1 is a relaxed, single-day introduction often conducted entirely in a pool or sheltered water. It has no performance requirements (like a specific depth or time) and focuses on comfort. AIDA 2 is a more intensive 2-3 day course that includes depth disciplines in the open ocean and requires passing specific performance benchmarks to certify.
Can I skip AIDA 1 and go straight to AIDA 2?
Yes, if you are already a confident swimmer and comfortable in open water, you can choose to start directly with AIDA 2. However, AIDA 1 is highly recommended if you are nervous, want a gentle introduction to the concepts, or want to try the sport before committing to a full multi-day certification.
Is freediving dangerous?
Like any water sport, it has inherent risks, but when practiced according to AIDA guidelines, it is incredibly safe. The core philosophy of AIDA 1 is safety education. You will learn how to avoid risks by never diving alone, listening to your body, and practicing proper safety supervision.
Do I need to buy special freediving gear before the course?
No. Snorkeling gear is perfectly fine for AIDA 1. Most schools provide the necessary equipment (like long fins and low-volume masks) for the duration of the course. We actually recommend waiting until after the course to buy gear so you know exactly what fits you best!
